TESTIMONIALS
MAX KERMAN
Singer - Arkells
I’ve come to know Mark through my band Arkells and recognize his talents as a leading voice in radio. I can tell Mark takes pride in his job and his community from the way he interacts with listeners on his show and the attention to detail he demonstrates on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. From talking to him about the Windsor/Detroit area, he’s clearly someone who is in tune with what is happening on both sides of the border. He’s not only a real music fan, but someone who’s worked in radio long enough to know the intricacies of the business. And last but not least, he’s a good person - which always goes a long way!

Drummer - The Standstills
From the very moment Mark McKenzie heard us at a small club in Windsor more than 10 years ago, he said we would be huge. Since then, we’ve had singles break Top 5 in Canada, we won best new rock group at the Radio Music Awards, we have toured with some huge bands in arenas across the country, and we’ve released two albums internationally under eOne. In an ever-changing industry of trends we've seen many followers and less leaders, Mark has always been on top of what's happening and is a leader. His programming of 89X is a very good indication of that. He has really harnessed the importance of connecting his voice on air with his presence in the community. We always hear about him being at shows whether its a stadium show in Detroit or a small venue in Windsor and genuinely on a weekly basis. He's not the guy that stays in the booth, goes home puts on records and lights incense. He is actively on the pulse of the new industry and NO ONE is more deserving and dedicated to Canadian music then he is.

I’ve had a ton of amazing experiences all over the continent when it comes to dealing with on-air personalities, and of course I’ve had some poor ones as well. There have really only been a handful of standout people who I feel have led with consistency, enthusiasm and professionalism 100% of the time. Mark definitely falls into that category. I’m constantly passing down the names of the “A-list” media to our publicist for all the people we are willing to make time for when our schedule gets hectic, and Mark is certainly on that list. I really do feel its rare to find people like him who are willing to be in the trenches at venues and festivals constantly keeping up these relationships as well as delivering top notch on-air content that I believe all radio stations covet.
JASON PARSONS
Singer - U.S.S.
My working relationship with Mark began in earnest in 2013 upon the inclusion of the music of my band - USS - under his watch at 89X. Mark has been instrumental in the growth, support, awareness and encouragement of my band’s music in the Greater Detroit and Windsor areas and beyond. Aside from his kind and candid approach to every radio interview he conducts, Mark is a patient and excellent arbiter of artists both new and old - a task that is daunting at best given the plethora of musicians looking to radio for validation nowadays. With a fine-toothed comb and an ear for detail, Mark carefully balances his love of alternative and active rock with objectivity and professionalism that leaves no stone unturned: he finds music and makes it his radio stations priority. Whether through the likes of social media or his energetically friendly quips and throws between the songs we all know and love, Mark makes those of us in music feel like we have a home at radio.
